At The Bridge to Hope, partnering with churches isn’t a strategy we added later. It’s the foundation. It is the ministry.

From the beginning, we’ve believed what Scripture has made clear for centuries: God transforms lives through His people. Not programs alone. Not professionals alone. Ordinary, redeemed believers walking faithfully with one another.

Every mother at The Bridge to Hope is supported by a Christian faith community—intentionally. Each church forms a team of real people, with real lives and real commitments, who come alongside a mother to mentor, encourage, disciple, and walk with her as she learns daily dependence on Christ.

This isn’t case management. This is discipleship. And discipleship is the Church’s calling.

You Don’t Need a Degree—You Need Jesus

Here’s the part that makes people pause: our volunteers don’t need special credentials. They don’t need to have it all together.

They need to love God. They need to be willing. They need lives being shaped—still imperfectly—by His grace.

God has always worked this way. Fishermen. Widows. Tentmakers. People who said yes before they felt ready.

He’s still doing that.

Why This Matters—for Our Mothers

Homelessness isn’t just a housing issue. It’s a hope issue. A belonging issue. A does-my-life-matter issue.

Many of the mothers who come to us don’t arrive asking for encouragement—they arrive surviving. Guarded. Unsure. Often unaware that what they’re missing is safe, consistent, Christ-centered community.

When a mother is surrounded by a church, she isn’t just receiving help—she’s being welcomed into the family of God. She begins to see faith lived out in real relationships, through real struggles, with real people.

That kind of transformation only happens through relationship.

This Is the Work God Designed

The Bridge to Hope exists because the Church exists. We don’t replace the local church—we partner with it. We don’t outsource discipleship—we support it.

When churches step in, mothers rise up. When believers say yes, lives change. When God’s people show up, hope takes root.

This is not an afterthought. This is the ministry.

And we are deeply grateful for every church, every volunteer, and every faithful yes.

To Our Volunteers: Thank You for Saying Yes

To those who have shown up, leaned in, prayed faithfully, listened patiently, and loved generously—thank you.

Thank you for opening your life, not just your calendar. Thank you for staying present in hard conversations and holy moments. Thank you for reflecting Christ not through perfection, but through faithfulness.

You didn’t need all the answers. You didn’t need to be “qualified.” You simply said yes—and God did the rest.

Because of you, mothers are discovering they are not alone, not forgotten, and not defined by their past. This ministry stands on your obedience, and we are genuinely grateful.

Now—We Need More of God’s People

If you’ve ever wondered whether God could use you, this invitation is for you.

There are mothers who haven’t yet found the courage to ask for help. There are children watching faith modeled for the first time. There are church teams ready—waiting—for one more willing heart. Click here to learn if your church is a part of The Bridge to Hope. If not, you can be the catalyst.

This isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing what the Church was created to do.

If God is stirring something in you, don’t dismiss it. Step forward. Join us. Be part of what He is doing through The Bridge to Hope.

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works… encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”— Hebrews 10:24–25

At The Bridge to Hope, God is rewriting stories. Moms who once faced homelessness are now living in safe, stable housing while preparing for independence, and their children are growing up with the security every child deserves. Each family is walking not alone, but with mentors, church partners, and a community that reminds them their true dependence is on God.

We want you to see this transformation for yourself.

Join us at our Two-Day Open House—tour our office, meet those who make this ministry possible, and walk through the apartments where moms and their children are building new lives.

But as we open these doors, we also look to the future. Right now, The Bridge to Hope operates in borrowed space—generously provided by churches and donors. Yet we believe God is calling us to more.

Through our Capital Campaign, we are trusting Him for a permanent property—a place that is truly home. A place where moms can find stability, children can thrive, and churches can gather to serve as family. A place that declares to every hurting mom in Phoenix: there is hope, there is help, and you are not alone.

The Open House lets you see the fruit of your giving today. The Capital Campaign invites you to sow into the future.

– Pray for God’s provision.
– Visit the Open House and witness lives being changed.
– Give to the Capital Campaign and help secure a permanent Bridge to Hope for generations to come. [Give Today]

Imagine the day we open the doors to a building of our own—when the sign out front says not just “The Bridge to Hope”, but “Welcome Home.” With your partnership, that day will come.

At The Bridge to Hope, our ministry is built on ordinary people who step forward in faith—and through God’s power, do extraordinary things. We celebrate two of those people: Steve and Connie, who mark 20 years of faithful volunteer service this September.

For two decades, Steve and Connie have walked alongside mothers in crisis, showing up with compassion, encouragement, and practical help. They have provided rides, cared for children when moms needed to attend work or school, and even opened their home for birthdays, holidays, and afternoons of fellowship. They have led their church team with dedication, gathering volunteers each month for prayer, encouragement, and planning. And long after a mother “graduates” from The Bridge to Hope, Steve and Connie continue to nurture relationships, reminding each one that she will always remain part of our family.

“Connie and Steve were blessings that came to us during a difficult time for my family. From their ability to be truly kind and accepting, they have become family to me and my kids. They will always be in our hearts and forever a part of my story to a better life!” — Kayla, A Bridge Graduate from 2017

One volunteer put it beautifully: “Steve is a doer, a server of others, a lover of teaching the next generation—the children, and an encourager. Connie is the organizer, the family spokesperson, practical, caring, and giving. Both were involved beyond the call of duty… A real good adjective for them would be FAITHFUL.” Another added, “They have been available to many moms and their children, nurturing and encouraging them. Their Bridge family grows as each mom leaves the protection of the ministry, but Steve and Connie keep the relationships strong.”

Steve and Connie’s story reminds us that ministry is not built on grand gestures, but on steady faithfulness. They are not superheroes. They are everyday people who said “yes” to God’s call—and through that yes, God has used them to change lives.

The truth is, The Bridge to Hope cannot exist without people like Steve and Connie. Our moms need mentors and encouragers who will walk with them as they rebuild their lives. They also need the support of those who give financially so that apartments, staff, and ministry space are possible. Volunteers and supporters together make this ministry alive.

As we celebrate Steve and Connie’s 20 years, we also extend an invitation: Will you step forward, just as they did? Maybe God is calling you to mentor a mom, serve on a church team, or support this ministry financially. You don’t have to be extraordinary—just willing. God does the rest.

Steve and Connie’s faithfulness has left a legacy that continues to grow. Imagine the impact if more of us said “yes.”

Happy 20th Anniversary, Steve and Connie. Thank you for showing us what it means to Love God and through that love serve faithfully.

Our Bridge Mentor from LCdC shared her experience of taking their Bridge family to church. Our ‘Bridge Kid’ participated in the children’s sermon lead by Pastor Ruby. Pastor asked the children if they remember what gift they received three years ago. Our Bridge Kid raised his hand and said “he received Jesus!” Pastor led the congregation in a round of applause.

The end of the service when we all were reciting the Lord’s prayer, again our Bridge Kids did a great job following along and saying the prayer out loud, even a lady that was sitting in front of our Bridge Family and their mentoring church team member told him he did a good job.

Tonight when I was running errands my Bridge family called me. “Hi Barb, what are you doing do you miss me?” Yeah he made my day.

Our Church team from La Casa de Cristo Lutheran Church has been providing transportation and has worshiped alongside their Bridge family since she entered in December 2014. Our Bridge Mom has been taking her son to church since receiving him back in her care in November 2015. But LCdC has been taking “Bridge Kids” and their mothers to church since 1989. In this act of mentoring and sharing Christ many lives have been impacted.

Thank you to all our congregations who open their doors and ensure our Bridge families attend church weekly. Your willingness to come alongside a homeless single mother and her children is humbling. You may be just driving them to church, but you are sharing the love and transformation that is only found in Christ.

This account was from 2016. This little boy continues to be a part of our ministry. He volunteers with his mother to watch our Bridge kids when he is not too busy with sports or with his little brother.

Most people’s answer to this question would simply be, “I Can’t.” That is partially true. Even the task of mentoring someone can feel overwhelming. Certainly, we need God’s help, and as Christian women, stepping out in faith to mentor a woman who has had a much different background and life experiences than we have had, we need something more. We need community. It takes a team.

In April of 2023, when Crystal stepped into our lives, we were ready… ready for what? Well, that wasn’t always so clear, but we did know that God had brought Crystal and Daario into our lives to love them. We were trusting Him for the rest. She wasn’t used to living in the type of community she found herself surrounded by. She needed housing and was willing to comply with the requirements of The Bridge to Hope to stay, but she wasn’t quite sure about this church team that was so intent on having conversations, asking so many questions, and just being so… “there all the time”. She looked forward to getting a job as soon as possible and getting back out on her own The Bridge to Hope’s goal is to help mothers find full-time employment. Employment that will enable a mother to provide for her family as a single parent. That means getting an education and vocational training. Crystal was encouraging her to complete her GED and then dream a little about the type of career she may like to have that would provide a lifestyle to meet the needs of her and her son for the long haul. She chose welding, got trained, and found a job in a family-owned welding shop.

Something else happened during this time. Crystal began to see that having the mentor team from Faith Bible Church wasn’t such a bad thing. She began to accept the love she was being shown and learned to reciprocate it. She was experiencing something similar with the other Bridge moms and staff. Crystal didn’t come looking for community, but she found herself surrounded by it and came to realize she did need it, and it was wonderful.

She also learned about God’s love for her and how He was guiding her and providing for her, and if she continues to stay close to Him, even as she graduates from The Bridge to Hope, He will faithfully continue to provide community to help her as she continues on her journey as long as she remains open to it.

The FBC mentor team is so proud of Crystal and all that she has accomplished these past two years. While our friendships will continue, we will no longer be “there all the time”. Still, we’ll remember with great joy all that God has taught Crystal and us as well! So again, How Can Someone Like Me Change the World? Draw near to God, invest in community, love and serve those that He places in your life, and watch Him change the World for someone like Crystal.”

What is a Graduation at The Bridge to Hope? We like to think of it as the not so small task of exiting homelessness, and entering the next step of responsibility, independence and providing for your family as a single parent–task.

This month we celebrated a Graduation. Franchon achieved her goals and moved into a home she is providing for her family. Prior to The Bridge to Hope her family was living at a local shelter in our community, unemployed, and notably on her own.

Bethany Bible Church has been there since the beginning of this young mother’s journey. A home was created prior to her arrival, they picked her up from the shelter and began the task of nurturing, encouraging and guiding her daily. Collectively her Bridge Team and her church family from BBC prayed for her and her young children. She was notable no longer on her own.

The Bethany team share an account that made them laugh and consider the profound job they have as mentors. Once a month Bridge mothers hosts their mentoring team in their home for a “Bridge Dinner”. Typically, along with food, there is a time of sharing and prayer. One evening Franchon’s team asked how they could pray for her. Several requests were made, and Steve, a mentor from BBC, asked “who would like to start our praying?” Everyone in the room was pleasantly surprised when Franchon’s young son, who did not appear to be engaged in the going’s on, volunteered to pray. He proceeded to include all requested prayers.

The impact of our mentors is often unknown, but we trust that building a relationship with a young mother in crisis, standing with her with encouraging words, with prayers, is important and life-changing.

We extend to each of our partnering churches a sincere ‘Thank You’ for your commitment to The Bridge to Hope. You ensuring those experiencing homelessness not only receive a safe home, but a faith community to provide the hope she needs to change her life, and the lives of her children.

If you would like to get your church involved in this Kingdom work, ending homelessness One Family at a Time, call The Bridge today.

Together we are ending homelessness One Family at a Time.
